Virtual playground today @10.30 for 20 minutes.
This can be accessed the same way as a google meet, using the code p23miltonvirtualplayground. We are hoping this will run like a break time as an opportunity for the kids to have a chat, adults will just be there to supervise.  Please make sure you are using your child’s @invergordonacademy email to access this.
Question: Can you think of something you would like to ask your friends during today’s virtual playground?
Send a selfie with your ideas or email your ideas to: Aine.o’shea@invergordonacademy.org.uk
Health and Wellbeing
Following our work last week, thinking about our ambitions for the future. This week we are going to think about the world of work. Today I would like you to write down 3 headings: strengths, interests and skills. Can you write at least one thing under each heading that you think you have?
Note for parents: Taking the time to discuss the difference between each of these will help your little one come up with answers.
Break
Numeracy- Money
This week we are going to continue our work around money. We are going to start thinking about giving change. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GK8fp33D4A
Questions: Why do we need to know how to figure out change?
How might being able to figure our change help you (when lockdown is finished)
Literacy- boggle
Boggle is a fun way of making words and practicing our word building skills. You use a grid of random letters and using these to make words. You can either use the letters provided and work from the screen (in a separate blog post) or have fun making a boggle board of your own. How many words can you make? You can add more fun by competing against someone in your house. Fancy a challenge? How many words can you get into a sentence?
Note for parents: Don’t worry if your little one starts off with simple 3 letter words, encourage them to use the digraphs (2 sounds together)

Have you registered?  Please send a photo of some completed work to the above email address, I’d love to add lots to our work to be proud of.

Thinking ahead to next week, is there a day that would work better for the virtual playground? Please get in touch and let me know if there is. I like to give as many of the class a chance to chat to their friends as possible.
Question: What is your favourite thing about yourself?
Send a selfie with your ideas or email your ideas to: Aine.o’shea@invergordonacademy.org.uk
Health and Wellbeing
Yesterday you wrote down your ambitions for the future. Today we are going to think about what we need to do to get there. This could be something you have to practice, something you need to learn or something you need to do.
Can you think of a target you could set to help you get there?
Break
Topic Grid-Zoo
Go on to the whole school Zoo planner on the main school blog page and choose an activity you would like to do.
Please send me photos of what you choose, I love to see your work.
Literacy- Writing

Can you write a story or diary entry for one of the characters in Kid Normal.
You could choose to be one of the teachers, Murph, one of the children in the super school, one of the older children who are out fighting crime or even imagine you have a superpower and go to that school too.
Remember when you are writing to use capital letters, full stop and finger spaces. In this story I am wanting you to think about how the character is feeling.
Note for adults: If you are helping with writing by writing out the sentences first, leave a few words in each sentence for them to sound out themselves so they continue to practice this skill.

Have you registered?  Please send a photo of some completed work to the above email address, I’d love to add lots to our work to be proud of.

Health and Wellbeing
I was really impressed with your drawings and descriptions of the people in your house. I’m sure it made them feel really happy to hear all those nice things.
What are your ambitions for the future? If you still have space write your ambitions on your self-portrait.
Break
Numeracy-Money
Activity 1: Paying for items https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/cashing-in/cashing-in.html
Choose an amount of money to focus on. I would recommend starting with a smaller amount and building up. Note for parents: remember to encourage your child to start with the largest coin. If they are unsure if they have made the correct total, go back over and model counting out the coins they have chosen.
Activity 2: Adding coins/ shop activity Can you set up a shop in your house? You can use the items you made prices for yesterday or some new ones. If you have spare change around your house you can use that or you can make your own money. You can choose to either be a shop keeper or a customer.
Literacy

Listen to chapter 13 of Kid Normal
Question: Why did the bigger boy push in front of Murph in the line? Has this ever happened to you? What did you do?
Activity: What is your favourite school dinner at Milton Primary? This can either be something that Mari and Clare really make or you can use your imagination and come up with what would be perfect for you.Draw a picture and write underneath why it’s your favourite.

Remember you have your google meets today at 11.
Ensure you are using your childs @invergordonacademy address to access it, otherwise the code wont work.

Send a selfie with your ideas or email your ideas to: Aine.o’shea@invergordonacademy.org.uk
Health and Wellbeing
I loved seeing the words you chose and your self portraits. It’s always nice to think and hear nice things about ourselves.
Today we are going to try and spread that happy feeling. Can you draw a picture of someone in your house and write all the things that are great about them around it.  You could do one for everyone in your house, if you want.
Break
Numeracy-Money
Activity 1: Adding coins
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game
This activity works for everyone, just choose a smaller amount of coins and build up as you get more confident
Activity 2: Can you make price tags for things around your house? How will you decide how much to charge for them?
Note for parents: Remember when adding up coins, it’s important to remember to start with the largest coin. It’s normal for children to have very little concept of the value of money, they may for example, say they would charge £5 for a tin of soup, that’s okay just focus on supporting them to write it correctly.
Literacy

Listen to chapter 12 of Kid Normal
Question: What do you think happened to blue phantom?
Optional Activity: Draw a picture of the blue phantom and his cool car. Use the description in the story to help you design it.
Note for parents: The follow up activity in literacy is optional today following feedback that it can be difficult to fit everything in on the same day as a google meet.

P2- Coin ordering
Today you are going to be spending more time thinking about ordering coins. Remembering this is by value and not by size. Activity 1: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game
When you click on this link, go into the ordering section and first select 1 to 20p. If you are feeling confident with this then select 1 to 50p for more of a challenge.

P3-  Coin addition
Today you are going to practice adding up money to make an amount.
Activity 1: https://natwest.mymoneysense.com/students/students-5-8/coin-cruncher/
When entering this game click make the total and select British pounds.
Note for parents: When counting money, it’s important they start with the coin of the highest value. Get your little one into the habit of doing this when making an amount of money in the game.
Literacy

Listen to chapter 11 of Kid Normal.
(this is a long chapter so take breaks if you need to)
Question: What do you think was said between the police officers and Cowgirl?

I loved reading about all your recipes last week, some sounded delicious and some sounded a bit disgusting, but they all had lots of imagination.
Question: If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Send a selfie with your ideas or email your ideas to: Aine.o’shea@invergordonacademy.org.uk
Health and Wellbeing
This week in health and wellbeing we are going to be thinking about what makes us special.
Today I’d like you to draw a self portrait and keep it somewhere safe because we will use it again this week.
Break
Today we are going to try something a bit different  because I know lots of you are missing your friends so we are going to try an optional virtual playground. This will happen at 10.30 for 20 minutes.
This can be accessed the same way as a google meet, using the code p23miltonvirtualplayground.
We are hoping this will run like a break time as an opportunity for the kids to have a chat, adults will just be there to supervise.
Please make sure you are using your child’s @invergordonacademy email to access this, otherwise the code won’t work. I will also post a link just before 10.30 in the comments under this post.
Numeracy-Money
P2- Coin recognition
Activity 1: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game Choose the coin sorting option.
Activity 2: Can you point to the coin worth the most/ the least.
Note for parents: A common error when working with money is that the size relates to the value, for example, a 2p coin would be worth more than a 5p coin because it is larger. Take some time to point out the number that shows us the value.
P3How to correctly write money, what happens when we go past a pound.
Activity: Ask an adult to give you an amount of money for you to write down. They can make it tricky by saying 144p or 544p but you should write £1.44 or £5.44.  Can you try asking them some too?   Note for parents: The important learning point here is that there are 100 pennies in a pound.
Literacy

Choose a literacy game from the list posted. The games cover a range of skills so choose what is best for you today. If you’re not sure, drop me an email and I’m happy to give some advice.
Have you registered?   Please send a photo of some completed work to the above email address, I’d love to add lots to our work to be proud of.

Break
Numeracy
Sumdog- diagnostic test
If you have time do a little more of the test today, it is fine to do it in little bits.

Already done it?
Why not play a numeracy game outside, can you make up you own? First, think of the numeracy skill you would like to work on.
Send me your ideas I would love to see them.
Example 1: You could throw a ball and say a number, like 10, the person you throw it to could give you a number to take away from that and you could tell them the answer.
Example 2: Rosie came up with a game where she threw a ball and each circle was worth a different amount of points, she had to add up her score but could lose points for putting it in the grass. Example 3: Why not throw a ball counting up in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s like we do in class?
Note for adults: after a few days of working hard on sumdog, let them come up with their own game. Ask them what skill they want to practice and leave the rest to them, just join in the fun.
Lunch
Literacy- Sentence building

Ask someone in your house to give you a word, it can be any word at all. Can you put it into a sentence that makes sense?
Remember a sentence should have a capital litter, full stop and finger spaces.
Fancy a challenge? Ask someone in your house to write a sentence for you and see if you can improve it. This could be a jumbled up sentence, a sentence that could be made more interesting with adjectives, connectives or different openers.
Note for parents: I would recommend starting with words like bat, dog, map and moving onto more complicated words like train, hair, bread. Try to keep to words that they can  sound out independently.
