Watch:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAY5ZMxDteE In the video, the artist used a pre cut out template for the shape of the face. This is not necessary but it can help if your little one gets frustrated while trying to do it free hand.

Art and Design- drawing a mouth
You might have already guessed it but we are working our way through all the main features on a face, getting ready to be able to draw a portrait.
Today we are going to be thinking about drawing a mouth. Think carefully what you would like the mouth to look like, there are lots of different options. I’ve attached two videos, one for an open mouth and one for closed mouth. You might want to practice both or do something completely different- it’s up to you.

Work to be proud of

Despite it being a slightly shorter week of home learning, we have so much work to show and be proud of. We started a new expressive arts focus, worked on our class novel, took part in the whole school health and wellbeing challenge, worked on our numeracy skills and thought about our question of the day.

Finlay drew a beautiful blackbird he saw in his garden
Rosie worked very hard on her writing task this week, she challenged herself to use different openers.
Emma drew a beautiful flower she saw on a walk in Milton woods
Isla drew a map of Milton Primary school, showing us how she would use droids to take over it like in our class novel Kid Normal.
Brandon worked very hard to come up with rhyming words
Lacey drew a leaf and was careful to think about the little details
Abby wrote a story about a cat
Isla drew a beautiful picture of the view from her window
Demi worked very hard on her writing and was careful with her sounding out.
Brandon drew a picture of what he could see from outside his window
Rosie answering our question of the day, I think her wee smile says it all 🙂

I can’t wait to see even more of your work next week! Have a great weekend.

Activity 2: Ask someone in your house to give you a word. How many words that rhyme with that first word can you come up with?

Note for adults: Start with words like cat, dog, map, ball. These are words that are easy to rhyme with. You can build up to more challenging words. If your little one is finding this easy, you can challenge them to write a rhyming poem.
Literacy- Writing
Imagine you wake up and you have shrunk and are absolutely tiny (maybe into the size of an insect).
What do you think would happen?
Can you write an adventure that you would go on.  Thinking carefully about having a beginning, middle and end.
Remember to start by setting the scene like we practiced last week.
Art and design- drawing in nature
Yesterday we chose something in nature to draw.
Today I want you to look for something really small to focus on drawing. This could be a leaf, stone, blade of grass, petal etc. How much detail can you get into your drawing?

Numeracy- Number sequences with missing numbers.
This activity is a great one to keep practicing.
Activity 1: Take turns being the teacher.
Can you write a list of numbers with some missing and ask your grown up to solve it?
For example:  19 __  21  22 __ 24  25 Then it’s their turn to be the teacher.  You can make it tricky or easy.
Activity 2: http://ictgames.com/rangeArranger/
This activity allows you to choose the number range, for example you might want to start within 30 before trying a challenge of within 100. For pupils that are easily doing within 100, try challenging them to within 1000.
Note for adults: If you are challenging your child and moving past 100, take some time to discuss the components of each number, hundreds, tens and units and how we use this to help us.
Literacy- questions
Kid Normal Listen to chapter 21 of Kid Normal
Follow up task:  If you were in control of the droids and wanted to take over Milton Primary School, where would you place them? Draw a map of the school, or Milton to show where you would put them.
Art and design- drawing in nature.
Today we are going to think about drawing something in nature. Find something outdoors to draw, this could be a plant, tree, flower, leaf or anything that catches your attention. Take your time to look at the detail in it and then try your best to draw this.

Message for Primary 2/3 Parents

Good Evening all,

I hope you’ve all managed to enjoy the lovely sunshine today and over the weekend. Just a little update for you all on evidencing your child’s learning engagement.

We are really grateful to everyone for sending in photographs of their child’s work as we really do love seeing what they are getting up to but we also don’t want anyone to feel under unnecessary pressure to send in multiple photographs each day to prove their child is working at home. There are lots of other ways we know if your child has engaged with our learning experiences.

As of Tuesday 2nd June, Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will still require you to comment on the work being posted so they know your child is ‘present’ for learning and is feeling well.

In terms of learning engagement, if the task lends itself well to a photograph or if your child is really keen to show their teacher their work then feel free to send this in. If not, then just drop Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea an e-mail to let them know your child has engaged. Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will acknowledge this e-mail so you know your child has been recognised as engaging with the learning.

If the task is computer based -for example, Sumdog, Teach your Monster to Read or Education City – Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will be able to view your child’s results for that day so they will know they have engaged with the learning. So to be clear, you are not required to send in photographs every day but you can if you want to.

Blog posts which share your child’s work will take place no more than two times per week. Class Teachers will decide when this is posted and the day may vary each week. Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will make a decision about what to share and will try to ensure there are only two photographs per child, per post. This keeps it fair and places less pressure on everyone.

Please know that we are very grateful to you all for continuously engaging with the experiences we are planning. However, we know there are wonderful learning experiences happening in all of your homes too. If there’s anything out with the ‘planned’ learning experiences that you’d like to share – please do. I was delighted to have the opportunity to share Finlay, Abby and Eilidh’s box cars and Lois’ new caterpillar friends last week. These are all very valuable learning experiences and we are keen to recognise them.  Send these to Joanna.christie@invergordonacademy.org.uk and I can share them too! Your child may have learned to ride their bike, they might be helping more around the house, you may have made something special during lockdown – the list goes on. Please tell us about them too!

So, to summarise:

  • Comment on the work every day to confirm attendance.
  • Send in a photograph or 2 if the task lends itself well to it.
  • If not, send an e-mail explaining what your child has done for the day.
  • Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will respond to your e-mail so you know your child is registered as engaging with learning.
  • Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will share your child’s work on the blog no more than twice per week. They will try to ensure there are 2 photographs included of your child, per post, where possible.

If you have any questions at all, please get in touch.

We are hoping this removes any pressure parents and class teachers may be feeling. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss anything further.
