Message for Primary 2/3 Parents

Good Evening all,

I hope you’ve all managed to enjoy the lovely sunshine today and over the weekend. Just a little update for you all on evidencing your child’s learning engagement.

We are really grateful to everyone for sending in photographs of their child’s work as we really do love seeing what they are getting up to but we also don’t want anyone to feel under unnecessary pressure to send in multiple photographs each day to prove their child is working at home. There are lots of other ways we know if your child has engaged with our learning experiences.

As of Tuesday 2nd June, Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will still require you to comment on the work being posted so they know your child is ‘present’ for learning and is feeling well.

In terms of learning engagement, if the task lends itself well to a photograph or if your child is really keen to show their teacher their work then feel free to send this in. If not, then just drop Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea an e-mail to let them know your child has engaged. Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will acknowledge this e-mail so you know your child has been recognised as engaging with the learning.

If the task is computer based -for example, Sumdog, Teach your Monster to Read or Education City – Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will be able to view your child’s results for that day so they will know they have engaged with the learning. So to be clear, you are not required to send in photographs every day but you can if you want to.

Blog posts which share your child’s work will take place no more than two times per week. Class Teachers will decide when this is posted and the day may vary each week. Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will make a decision about what to share and will try to ensure there are only two photographs per child, per post. This keeps it fair and places less pressure on everyone.

Please know that we are very grateful to you all for continuously engaging with the experiences we are planning. However, we know there are wonderful learning experiences happening in all of your homes too. If there’s anything out with the ‘planned’ learning experiences that you’d like to share – please do. I was delighted to have the opportunity to share Finlay, Abby and Eilidh’s box cars and Lois’ new caterpillar friends last week. These are all very valuable learning experiences and we are keen to recognise them.  Send these to Joanna.christie@invergordonacademy.org.uk and I can share them too! Your child may have learned to ride their bike, they might be helping more around the house, you may have made something special during lockdown – the list goes on. Please tell us about them too!

So, to summarise:

  • Comment on the work every day to confirm attendance.
  • Send in a photograph or 2 if the task lends itself well to it.
  • If not, send an e-mail explaining what your child has done for the day.
  • Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will respond to your e-mail so you know your child is registered as engaging with learning.
  • Miss Robinson and Ms O’Shea will share your child’s work on the blog no more than twice per week. They will try to ensure there are 2 photographs included of your child, per post, where possible.

If you have any questions at all, please get in touch.

We are hoping this removes any pressure parents and class teachers may be feeling. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss anything further.
